According to US officials, the Iranian and Russian governments allegedly targeted the electoral process to sow discord among American citizens.

Moscow has denied allegations. Relations between Washington and Moscow have been tense since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war and US-Iran ties remain strained due to issues surrounding Israel and Iran’s nuclear program.

Biden administration has long claimed that external interference attempts were made in the 2024 presidential election. In response US government has taken stringent measures as reported by Reuters.

Sanctioned entities include Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and organizations linked to Russian intelligence services. Treasury Department stated these groups spread disinformation to create social and political tension in the US.

Russian organization “Center for Geopolitical Expertise” (CGE) was accused of disseminating false information about candidates, creating misleading content, and targeting the 2024 vice-presidential candidate with fabricated allegations and videos.

Both Russia and Iran have denied these accusations. Russian Embassy in Washington stated that Kremlin has never interfered in the internal affairs of United States.
