US declares monkeypox a public health emergency


    The spread of monkeypox has been declared a public health emergency in the United States. This was announced by the Minister of Health Xavier Becerra. According to the minister, 6.6 thousand cases of the disease have been registered in the United States.

    “I will declare a public health emergency for monkeypox. We are ready to take our response to the virus to the next level and urge every American to take monkeypox seriously,” Becerra said during a telephone briefing (quoted by TASS).

    On July 23, the World Health Organization declared the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency. Rospotrebnadzor said that there is no need to introduce anti-epidemic measures in Russia.
