US announces downed aircraft over Alaska

A representative of the US presidential administration at a briefing today, February 10, said that over the past day, the US military had spotted an aircraft over Alaska and shot it down, Reuters reports.

According to a White House spokesman, the object was at an altitude of about 12 km and posed a danger to civil aviation. For the duration of the operation, the United States closed part of the airspace.

One of the journalists asked if the downed aircraft belonged to China. A White House spokesman said it was not yet clear which state the object belonged to. Its belonging is going to be determined by the fragments found.

At the same time, the administration official noted that the downed apparatus was much smaller than the Chinese balloon shot down on February 4 over the waters of South Carolina at the direction of US President Joe Biden.
