Schools of Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Sanskrit Parishad (UPMSSP) will be given free books from this academic session itself. Instructions have been issued to all the Basic Education Officers to order textbooks from publishers according to the estimation of student numbers of schools in their area.
In April this year, the state government had also decided to extend the benefit of free textbooks to Sanskrit Parishad schools. The government gives free textbooks to about 1.80 crore students of government and recognized primary and junior schools in the state.
There are 839 schools in the state and free textbooks will be provided to the students of classes 6 to 8. About 8 thousand students will benefit from this decision. In these schools only the syllabus prescribed by the Basic Education Council is taught but they are not yet given the facility of free text books. 3094 students of class six, 2896 of class seven and 1920 students of class eight will get the benefit of this decision.
The state government has set a policy for textbooks only last week and within three months the books will reach the schools in print. Apart from this, printing of workbooks is also being done.
