UN Security Council fails to reach agreement on travel of Taliban leaders

The UN Security Council is deadlocked over whether to extend the foreign travel permit for Taliban officials, which expires today, August 19. About it informs Khaama Press.

Russia and China offered to extend the permit for the 13 Taliban for another 90 days, but the offer was rejected by Britain, France, Albania and Ireland. At the same time, the permanent members of the UN Security Council – China and Russia did not want to agree with the US proposal to allow six representatives of the Taliban movement to travel only to Qatar.

According to Western human rights groups, the ban on foreign visits of high-ranking Taliban officials should be renewed because of the violation of the rights of Afghan women. Previously, two Taliban education officials had already been banned from overseas travel, but 13 others have had their permits extended until 19 August.
