Ukraine’s main New Year tree will remain unlit due to energy shortage

The Kyiv authorities have decided not to decorate the main New Year tree of the country with illumination. This was done to save electricity, according to the Ukrainian energy company YASNO.

According to the company’s data, the radiance of the Christmas tree could add 5.96 MW of load to the capital’s power grid every day – two percent of the already existing deficit. This amount of electricity per hour is consumed by 12 high-rise buildings, in connection with which company representatives expressed their joy because of the government’s refusal to overspending.

“Today, an end was put to the disputes over the establishment of the main Christmas tree of the country … We rejoice at the decision on the absence of illuminations on it. Because it means that it will be possible to reduce a significant additional load on the network. And, consequently, to reduce the number of needs for power cuts, ”the statement said, distributed by the UNN publication.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the Lugansk People’s Republic reported a catastrophic situation in the energy sector in a number of Ukrainian regions. Ukrenergo documents show that more than 60 percent of the capacities have been disabled so far.
