The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced the need to prevent the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry demanded to convene an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council in order to counteract the plans of the Russian authorities.

Ukraine, follows from the message of the department, appeals to the countries of the G7 and the European Union in order to “warn the Belarusian authorities about the far-reaching consequences for Belarus” in case of consent to the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons. The Foreign Ministry stressed that Kyiv expects “effective actions” to counter Russia’s “nuclear cargo” from the permanent members of the UN Security Council – Great Britain, China, the United States and France.

“The latest statements by the Russian Federation regarding intentions to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus are yet another provocative step by the criminal Putin regime, undermining the principles of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, the architecture of nuclear disarmament and the system of international security as a whole,” the message says.

On March 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko had already raised the issue of deploying Russian tactical nuclear weapons in the republic. According to Mr. Putin, the construction of a storage facility for nuclear weapons will be completed on July 1. The head of state explained that the reason, among other things, was the plans of Great Britain to supply shells with depleted uranium to Ukraine. This, the president believes, is “one way or another connected with nuclear technology.”
