UK Defense Minister John Healey announced that the country’s armed forces are unprepared to defend against an enemy attack if war arises, as reported by The Telegraph. He described the current British military as “depleted and underfunded.”
“We were not prepared for war. If we’re unready for war, we cannot face any adversary,” Healey remarked. He attributed the army’s weakened state to the prior government’s lack of commitment.
A high-ranking military source told The Telegraph that while British forces are doing all they can to handle modern warfare effectively, they are still unprepared for a full-scale conflict. “If we aren’t ready to fight, we can’t deter the enemy. This principle forms NATO‘s core thinking. We must protect our countries and be highly effective in preventing any future aggression,” Healey stated.

Earlier, the i newspaper reported that the UK’s air defense systems lack the capability to defend the country if conflict arises. In September, UK Deputy Defense Minister Luke Pollard told The Times that Britain had drained its own weapon reserves to support Ukraine‘s defense efforts.
