Türkiye and Egypt continue to normalize relations

Türkiye and Egypt agreed on the mutual appointment of ambassadors. This was announced today, May 30, by the Turkish Club.

President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi phoned the president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and congratulated him on his re-election.

During the conversation, the heads of the two countries agreed to raise the level of diplomatic relations and exchange ambassadors.

The leaders also discussed steps to deepen Turkish-Egyptian relations, especially in the economic sphere, and regional issues.

Recently there has been a process of normalization of relations between Cairo and Ankara.

At the end of February, the head of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Sameh Shukri visited the earthquake zone in Turkey, and the president expressed condolences to Recep Tayyip Erdogan in connection with the disaster.

After that, the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Mevlut Cavusoglu arrived in Cairo on the first visit of a Turkish dignitary to Egypt after a ten-year break. In April, Shukri again made a trip to Turkey.

Al-Sisi’s first-ever meeting with Erdogan took place at the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Doha.
