Turkish Foreign Ministry: Sweden and Finland do not fulfill the conditions for joining NATO

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu during today’s press conferences stated that Sweden and Finland have not yet taken concrete steps to fulfill the agreements concluded with Turkey for the Turkish side to approve the countries’ entry into the alliance. He did not specify what kind of interstate agreements he was talking about.

The fact that Turkey agreed to support the accession of Sweden and Finland to the alliance became known at the end of June. Then it was clarified that one of the conditions of Turkey was the requirement that the northern European countries extradite members of radical Kurdish groups and associates of the preacher Fethullah G├╝len.

Reuters reported today that Sweden is extraditing a Turkish citizen at the request of Ankara. Swedish authorities declined to comment on whether the decision to extradite the unnamed man was linked to agreements with Turkey.
