Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar V interview told Haberturk TV channel that the grain deal, which expires on May 18, could be extended.
The head of the military department considers this initiative beneficial for both Russia and Ukraine. Akar said Turkish officials discussed the benefits of the treaty with representatives of both states “in a friendly atmosphere”. The Minister of Defense emphasized the importance of the grain deal, recalling that it is she who saves the world from, for example, a famine catastrophe in Africa and the events that follow it.
Akar, referring to the opinion of other politicians in Ankara, says that the implementation of the grain initiative can contribute to the solution of other issues. Among them is a ceasefire and an exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine.
Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the grain deal cannot continue without fulfilling its conditions.
