Donald Trump’s decision to suspend humanitarian aid has led to crises in health and other sectors worldwide. Many USAID programs are shutting down affecting projects heavily reliant on US assistance. Experts believe this move has created negative consequences for aid-dependent initiatives.

Immediately after taking office for a second term Trump issued an executive order suspending almost all foreign aid programs for the next 90 days. As a result, new funding approvals are halted, and ongoing projects are temporarily suspended. This has led to the closure of several USAID-run neonatal nutrition clinics in some of the world’s poorest countries.

Last Friday, the US State Department instructed embassies worldwide to stop funding projects related to health, education, development, and security. Experts warn that this decision will significantly impact aid-dependent sectors.
Trump administration has also halted a flagship malaria vaccine program run by USAID. The global aid community has expressed concern over this sudden suspension warning that many lives could be at risk.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the review of these aid programs would be completed within 85 days. He also indicated that US assistance to countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan and Ukraine could be cut off due to this decision.
