An important discussion between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin set to take place on Tuesday local time.

According to White House their phone conversation expected to focus on key issues such as the division of territories and Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Analysts suggest that Trump is seeking Putin’s support for a one-month ceasefire in the ongoing Ukraine war.
Russia has outlined certain conditions for agreeing to a ceasefire. Including Ukraine renouncing its NATO membership Russia retaining control over occupied territories, and limiting Ukraine’s military size.
Additionally, Russia has demanded the lifting of Western sanctions and called for elections in Ukraine.

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas stated that Russia’s conditions indicate they are not genuinely seeking peace. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer mentioned that countries like UK and France prepared to deploy peacekeepers in Ukraine if peace deal reached.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has acknowledged the potential for ceasefire. But emphasized that Ukraine’s sovereignty is non-negotiable and that Russia must withdraw from occupied territories.
In a related development United States reportedly preparing to withdraw from EU-led investigation into Russia’s alleged war crimes and aggression. According to The New York Times, Trump administration cited budget constraints as the reason for ending its participation in the investigation.
U.S. had been the only non-European member of this investigative team. Which established in 2023 to probe alleged war crimes committed by Russia, Belarus, North Korea, and Iran during the Ukraine conflict.

Trump administration has also scaled back the activities of special task force formed in 2022. That trained Ukrainian prosecutors to handle war crimes cases against Russia.
