Trump Tariffs: Starting Tuesday 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada will take effect announced U.S. President Donald Trump in a statement on Monday. However he also hinted at the possibility of tariff-free trade with Argentina.

Trump’s tariff policy is putting pressure on U.S. trade partners. Both Canada and Mexico are key trading partners and this move could negatively impact their economies.
Trump’s goal is to boost domestic production and create jobs in U.S. “There is no room for further negotiations with Mexico and Canada, and the tariffs will be enforced,” he stated. He also mentioned that reciprocal tariffs would take effect on April 2.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded by saying her administration has plans in place to counter Trump’s tariffs. She confirmed ongoing talks with the U.S. on border security and efforts to curb fentanyl trafficking. Meanwhile Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned of a “strong and unequivocal proportional response” to the new U.S. tariffs.
Despite imposing tariffs on Mexico and Canada, Trump spoke positively about Argentina. He praised Argentine President Javier Milei as a “great leader” and highlighted his economic policies.
Trump also announced a massive $100 billion investment by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in U.S. Investment will fund the construction of five state-of-the-art semiconductor plants in Arizona, creating thousands of high-paying jobs and strengthening U.S. chip production capabilities.

Despite these economic moves, public sentiment toward Trump remains largely negative. A CNN poll revealed that 52% of Americans disapprove of his actions while 48% support him. Survey also showed growing uncertainty about the country’s political future under Trump’s leadership.

Additionally Trump faces significant discontent among young voters, marginalized groups, and women. Many remain uncertain about the long-term impact of his policies, making his approval ratings a critical factor ahead of upcoming political events.
