U.S. President Donald Trump firmly stated that the United States has no role in political changes in Bangladesh.

He made this remark during a joint press conference at White House following a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When journalists asked about Bangladesh, Trump avoided question. Modi, on the other hand, emphasized strengthening global security and peace.

On Thursday at 4:30 PM (local time), Modi arrived at the White House, where Trump welcomed him. The two leaders first made official statements in the Oval Office, then answered questions from journalists.
Modi praised Trump’s efforts to end Russia-Ukraine war. Trump called Modi a great leader and said they are close friends. He stressed that unity is more important than many other things.
“We have strong unity, and our friendship is growing. Staying united as a nation is crucial. We are friends, and that won’t change,” Trump said.

He also noted that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin to help establish peace. He mentioned that, despite global perceptions of India’s neutrality, the country always stands for peace.
During the press conference, an Indian journalist asked Trump whether the so-called U.S. “Deep State” was involved in Bangladesh’s current crisis. Trump denied any U.S. involvement in Bangladesh’s internal matters.
Later, Trump and Modi held a closed-door bilateral meeting for 30 minutes, discussing key issues. Afterward, they issued a joint statement and answered more questions. In the evening, Trump hosted a state dinner in Modi’s honor at White House.
During their discussions, topics such as China, Russia, Ukraine, counterterrorism, and democracy were highlighted. Trump described Modi as a skilled leader and an even better mediator. Modi, in turn, stated that India does not support war or instability anywhere.

Following the meeting, Modi announced a reduction in tariffs on U.S. goods. Both leaders agreed to impose equal tariffs on each other’s products. Modi also revealed a plan to increase U.S.-India bilateral trade to $500 billion. In return, Trump confirmed that India would receive F-35 fighter jets and other military equipment from the U.S.
During the press conference, Modi echoed Trump’s famous slogan, “Make America Great Again,” by saying, “Make India Great Again.” He explained that their new goal is “Mega Partnership for Prosperity.”
Despite their mutual praise, Trump criticized India for imposing high trade tariffs. He said this was a significant issue in addressing the trade deficit. However, Modi’s tariff reduction announcement aimed to resolve this.

Both countries also agreed to collaborate on artificial intelligence, semiconductor production, and securing critical minerals. Modi reaffirmed that by 2030, U.S.-India trade would reach $500 billion, with India receiving F-35 jets and other defense equipment. Although Trump did not provide specific delivery dates, he assured that supplies would begin within the year.
