Kazakhstan does not recognize the DPR and LPR, President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Widespread application of the principle of nations to self-determination could lead to chaos, he said.

“For this reason, we do not recognize either Taiwan, or Kosovo, or South Ossetia, or Abkhazia. And… this principle will also be applied to quasi-state territories, which, in our opinion, are Luhansk and Donetsk,” he said.
Tokayev stressed that if the right of nations to self-determination is realized, then instead of 193 countries that are members of the UN, there will be more than 500 or 600 states – and “it will be chaos.”
