Three-time world champion in paracycling suspended from competition due to support for CBO

International Cycling Union suspends three-time world champion in paracycling Alexey Obydennov from participating in international competitions due to support for a special operation in Ukraine.

“As of June 1, 2023, you are not eligible to take part in any competition on the UCI International Calendar.” leads text of the letter to RIA Novosti.

The coach of the Russian national cycling team announced the suspension of the athlete Sergey Kopanets. Obydennov was previously admitted by the organization to the competition, subject to maintaining a neutral status. The UCI suspended the cyclist due to several messages posted on social media, which the organization interpreted as support for the UCI.

Representatives of the cyclists’ union found a violation of the requirements of neutrality in messages referring to the symbol “Z” and the phrase “victory will be ours.”
