“They take out insults for the USSR”: The decision of the Seimas of Latvia was called an attempt to recoup on a new generation

The authorities of the Baltic republics have long made it clear that they adhere to a Russophobic policy with an open reverence for neo-Nazism. Svetlana Zhurova, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, spoke about this in an interview with Life, commenting on the decision of the Latvian Seimas to declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism.

“It’s such an amazing thing to have European-style democracy. Apparently, they think it should look like this. And, mind you, this doesn’t happen in Berlin. <...> It is clear that they have a certain historical memory that is associated with the Soviet Union. But that has nothing to do with today.” Zhurova noted.

According to the deputy, Riga can simply take revenge on the Russians as the descendants of the USSR, who “occupied” the Baltic republics. Today, Life’s interlocutor emphasized, the Latvian authorities have put the oppression of Russians at the head of a fundamental national idea, and this is “very, very sad.”

“This is an attempt to recoup on a new generation, by and large, which also does not welcome, and many of them themselves suffered from those events no less, but more even than Lithuania. Much more! Many families had repressed people who were victims of that regime, but they (Lithuania. – Note. Life) remember only their grievances and now they are venting them, “- summed up the parliamentarian.

Earlier, Life said that the Saeima of Latvia declared Russia a state that supports terrorism. The deputies call on the EU countries to immediately suspend the issuance of tourist and entry visas to citizens of Russia and Belarus. According to Richard Kols, chairman of the Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee, for many years the Russian Federation directly and indirectly “supported and financed terrorist regimes and organizations in various ways.”
