The US State Department did not confirm Kyiv’s accusations against Russia regarding the situation at the ZNPP

The US administration said it could not confirm the accusations against Russia by the authorities in Kyiv regarding the situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

Speaking at a regular briefing on August 18, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that he had no information indicating that Russia would allegedly be preparing to conduct a “false flag operation” at the ZNPP. This assumption was put forward earlier by the Ukrainian authorities.

“I am not in a position to talk about what Russia may or may not be planning,” – said the representative of the American foreign policy department, answering a direct question on this topic.

“However, statements of this type, including some of those we have heard from Russian officials, raise concerns. They cause concern, as they fully fit into the Russian training manual: to blame others for what you yourself have done, or for what you are going to do, ” Price said at the same time.

Without citing any evidence, he accused Russia of having already carried out “a number of false flag operations” in Ukraine.

As previously stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov, Ukraine is preparing until August 19 resonant provocation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. According to the information provided by Konashenkov, during the visit of the UN Secretary General to Ukraine, Kyiv wants António Guterres accuse Moscow of “creating a man-made disaster” and nuclear terrorism by hitting the ZNPP from Nikopol.

The Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, located in Energodar, is under the control of Russian troops. In recent days, Ukrainian forces have carried out several strikes on the territory of the station, including using drones, heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers. In most cases, attacks reflect air defense systems, but shells hit infrastructure and the area of nuclear waste storage. As the head of the military-civilian administration of Energodar said on Thursday Alexander Volgaall services are put on alert in case of provocations at the ZNPP by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
