The United States and its allies have begun to prepare for a protracted conflict in Ukraine. Washington is trying to prevent Russia’s victory by increasing military aid to Kyiv.
The newspaper writes about it The Washington Post citing their sources. They note that the US authorities are simultaneously trying to mitigate the effects of the current crisis on the global economy and food security.
As the publication notes, the decision to supply Kyiv with increasingly advanced weapons capable of striking deep into Russia reflects the West’s willingness to take the risk of an inadvertent escalation with Russia.
It is noted that such support indicates that the NATO countries still admit that Ukraine will be able to resist during the armed conflict.
At the same time, a certain deadlock of the situation is stated, which was described by the former permanent representative of the United States to NATO Ivo Daalder.
He noted that the collective West faced a tough choice: either continue to provide assistance to Ukraine and maintain a status quo fraught with devastating consequences, or withdraw support and allow Moscow to succeed.
According to an unnamed official in the administration of US President Joe Biden, the possibility of a protracted conflict with global consequences was considered even before the events in Ukraine began.
Washington is counting on the fact that the supply of weapons to Kyiv, sanctions and diplomatic isolation of Russia will contribute to resolving the crisis through negotiations, he said.
As reported EADailyformerly Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that the pumping of the Kyiv regime with weapons is a path to a confrontation between Moscow and Washington. The Russian diplomat noted that in the current circumstances, the myopia of the Americans is manifesting. He explained that, driven by the desire to strategically defeat Russia, the American elites are upping the ante in escalation and leading the world to a global catastrophe.
