The United States intends to replace Russia as a partner in the study of Mars

Washington plans to replace Russia in the implementation of the Mars exploration project, which is being carried out in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA). This became known from the report on the draft US federal budget, published on March 9.

As follows from the document, the budget provides for an increase in funding for two missions to Mars, which are carried out in partnership with the European Space Agency. In one of them “The United States is replacing Russia as a partner”the project says.

The budget also provides for an allocation of $180 million for the creation of a space tractor to ensure the deorbit of the International Space Station (ISS) at the end of its service life. It is noted that this project is necessary in order not to count “on Russian systems that may not be up to the task“.

Formerly Consul General of the Russian Federation in Houston, Texas Alexander Zakharov reported that the United States of America is delaying the coordination of the Russian presence on joint launches to the ISS (International Space Station).
