The mission created by the UN to establish the facts of the shelling of the pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka on July 29 is currently working to obtain safe and unhindered access to the scene. This was announced by UN Secretary General António Guterres following a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“We will continue to work to obtain the necessary guarantees of safe access to the scene and other relevant places. Simply put, the fact-finding mission must have the freedom to find these facts. First of all, this means safe and unhindered access to people, places and objects evidence without any intervention by either party.” he noted.
Guterres added that the documents defining the terms of reference of the mission and its composition were presented to the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Its head will be the Brazilian General Carlos dos Santos Cruz. According to the UN Secretary General, he is a respected officer with more than 40 years of experience serving in a national capacity and in international organizations.
