In this case, relatives of a law enforcement officer, serviceman or government official are understood to mean their close relatives, relatives of their spouses, and even those whose “life, health and well-being are obviously dear to the victim due to established personal relationships,” said TASS.

Encroachment on relatives of a law enforcement officer in connection with the performance of his duties can fall under a criminal case under Article 317 or 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Moreover, violence can be both physical and mental.

For insulting an official of a law enforcement, regulatory or other body (the prosecutor’s office, the Investigative Committee, the FSB, the Federal Penitentiary Service, and others), punishment is provided for under Articles 318 and 319 – provided that the insult was committed in connection with the legal performance of duties by a representative of the authorities.

Violence that is not dangerous to life and health (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) is understood as beatings and other methods of causing physical pain, binding, leaving in a closed room that did not cause harm to health. The maximum sanction in this case is five years in prison. If, however, the health of a representative of the authorities was seriously or moderately harmed, and also if there was a “real danger” to his life and health, we will already talk about punishment under part 2 of the same article, the sanction for which is up to 10 years in prison.
