The State Duma proposed the return of two-year military service

It is necessary to return to two-year military service, as this will help improve the quality of mobilization resources. This opinion was expressed by a member of the State Duma Committee on Defense, Lieutenant General Andrei Gurulev.

“You have to serve in military service for two years,” wrote Gurulev in his telegram channel. He added that instead of increasing the number of conscripts, the service period should be increased to two years. In his opinion, this will solve the problem with the insufficient number of conscripts and will also improve the quality of training of the reserve personnel. The parliamentarian also expressed his concern about “pseudo-universities” that provide young people with a deferment from the army while studying, without providing a decent education.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree increasing the number of personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to 2,209,130 ​​people, including 1,320,000 military personnel. The Ministry of Defense will gradually carry out this process, attracting citizens to military service under a contract. Putin instructed the government to allocate funds from the federal budget to implement this decree. The new rules came into force on December 1.
