The State Duma Committee approved tougher criminal penalties for debt collectors

The State Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation approved a bill to toughen liability for collectors for illegal actions, reported Interfax. According to the document, they can be prosecuted for up to 10 years for violence while trying to collect debts.

According to the amendments, for actions aimed at repaying an overdue debt, associated with the threat of violence, as well as the destruction or damage to property, or the threat of spreading knowingly false information about the debtor or his relatives, collectors will face a fine of 300 to 500 thousand rubles. or imprisonment for up to five years.

For the same acts as part of a group of persons by prior agreement with the use of violence that is not dangerous to life or health; with the destruction or damage of property, as well as on a large scale, punishment is expected in the form of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years and a fine in the amount of 500 thousand to one million rubles.

For the same acts as part of an organized group; with the use of violence dangerous to life or health; on an especially large scale, it is supposed to be punished by imprisonment for a term of five to 10 years with fines from 1 to 5 million rubles.

In mid-May, Izvestia reported that a government commission had approved a bill from the Justice Ministry that would instruct bailiffs to protect Russians from collector calls.
