City Duma deputy Oleg Nilov proposed renaming the Gulf of Finland to “Nevsky” or “Kronstadt” due to Finland’s unfriendly attitude towards Russia. He voiced this proposal to RIA Novosti.
“Today in St. Petersburg people are already asking me questions: given this attitude <...> of this neighbor, why, for example, is our favorite bay called “Finnish”? There is a proposal to return its name – “Nevsky” or “Kronstadt,” said Nilov. He noted that he supports such proposals.
Earlier, URA.RU reported that on the night of November 18, Finland decided to close four border checkpoints on the eastern border: Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Niirale. According to the country’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, this decision was made to stop illegal crossings of the country’s border.
