MOSCOW, October 21 – At a plenary meeting on Thursday, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill that allows to increase, by decision of the President of the Russian Federation, the age limit for military service for marshals, generals of the army and admirals of the fleet.
At present, the federal law “On conscription and military service” for servicemen holding the military rank of Marshal of the Russian Federation, General of the Army and Admiral of the Fleet sets the age limit for military service – 65 years. These members of the armed forces who have reached the age limit for military service may be re-contracted until they reach the age of 70.
The proposed changes are made to Article 49 of the Federal Law “On Military Duty and Military Service”, the bill was introduced to the State Duma in July this year by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The developed bill is proposed to establish that with the most experienced and highly qualified military personnel who have the indicated military ranks who have reached the age limit for military service, a new contract can be concluded on military service for a period established by the decision of the President of the Russian Federation,” the head of the State Duma committee told reporters defense Andrei Kartapolov.
