The State Duma adopted a statement on the genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union by Germany and its accomplices during the Second World War

The State Duma at a plenary session on Wednesday adopted a statement recognizing the actions of Germany and its accomplices during the Great Patriotic War as genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union.

“The State Duma … recognizes the criminal acts of the Nazi invaders and their accomplices against the civilian population of the USSR as genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union,” — says in the statement.

The deputies took into account the provisions of the UN Charter of June 26, 1945, the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of December 9, 1948, the Charter and the Judgment of the Nuremberg Tribunal, as well as the Convention on the non-applicability of the statute of limitations to war crimes and crimes against humanity of 26 November 1968.
