The State Duma adopted a law on the suspension of Russia’s participation in START

“The Treaty contains provisions on the reduction and limitation of strategic offensive weapons. In order to ensure control over compliance with the provisions of the Treaty, each of the parties has the right to carry out inspection activities. At the same time, the United States purposefully does not fulfill its obligations under the Treaty in this area of ​​activity,” — stated in the explanatory note to the bill.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry allowed steps towards the United States on START on one condition – if Washington shows the political will for a general de-escalation. The ministry drew attention to the fact that US policy is aimed at undermining the national security of the Russian Federation, which directly contradicts the fundamental principles enshrined in the START-3 preamble.
