The State Duma adopted a law on criminal liability for discrediting all participants of the SVO

The State Duma in the third, final, reading adopted a bill on the introduction of criminal liability for discrediting all participants in the SVO, including volunteers.

At the moment, there is responsibility for publicly discrediting the use of the RF Armed Forces abroad. The new amendments will also affect criticism of volunteer formations.

Now, for a crime committed within a year after bringing to administrative responsibility, it threatens up to three years in prison. The amendments increase this period to five years. The maximum penalty has been increased to seven years if the actions resulted in death or riots.

In addition, liability is introduced in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years for fakes about volunteer formations involved in the SVO. Previously, this applied only to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
