President Vladimir Putin believes that the situation between Azerbaijan and Armenia is moving towards a settlement, although some difficulties remain. Mr. Putin said at a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilhama.
“In general, in my opinion, despite any difficulties and problems, which are still enough, the situation is still developing towards a settlement,” Vladimir Putin said, opening the negotiations (quote from the website Kremlin). In his opinion, there are technical obstacles to transport communications, but they are surmountable, and “by and large they do not exist.”
The trilateral meeting was held in Moscow yesterday, May 25, and lasted about 20 minutes. It is expected that in a week the vice-premiers of the three countries will meet in Moscow to discuss the remaining issues on Karabakh. This week, the Prime Minister of Armenia announced his readiness to recognize it as part of Azerbaijan in exchange for guarantees of the rights and security of the Armenians living in the area. Karabakh President Arayik Harutyunyan opposed this decision.
