The SBI of Ukraine called the main version of the death of Zaluzhny’s assistant an accident

State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) of Ukraine named The main version of the cause of death of the assistant to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valery Zaluzhny Gennady Chastyakov was careless handling of weapons. Mr. Zaluzhny himself stated that his assistant died due to the explosion of a grenade disguised as a gift.

The SBI report notes that, in addition to the main version of the accident, three other versions of Gennady Chastyakov are also being considered. Among them are versions of “a contract killing with the participation of Russian special services,” “an attempt to kill another officer of the apparatus of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the Russian special services,” and “a murder motivated by personal hostility.” The investigation is currently ongoing, the circumstances of the death of assistant Valery Zaluzhny are still being established.

The death of Gennady Chastyakov became known on November 6. According to Valery Zaluzhny, a grenade exploded in the house of the assistant to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the village of Chaiki, Kyiv region, which was presented to him under the guise of dummy ammunition. The children of Gennady Chastyakov were also injured as a result of the incident; they are now in the hospital. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that Valery Zaluzhny’s assistant “died as a result of careless handling of ammunition.” According to information received by the Ukrainian police, Gennady Chastyakov knew for certain that he was being given a live grenade, and not a dummy.
