The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation will strengthen control in the border zone of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Restrictions on staying in the ten-kilometer coastal zone will affect both foreign citizens and residents of Russia, journalists report.

In the border zone, citizens must have a pass, identification documents and documents confirming the right to stay in the border zone, and foreign citizens must have permission to enter the border zone,” according to the Vesti. In accordance with the State Border Law of 1993, a border zone 10 kilometers wide along the sea coast was established in the Arctic region. Exceptions are made for the village of Sabetta, internal islands and villages located in the internal waters of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Restrictions are also being introduced for owners of small vessels traveling in the border zone. Each vessel must be registered with the department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Western Arctic region in Salekhard, where they will also issue permits for engaging in economic activities in the specified zone.
