14 Feb – If Australia decides to close the Russian Consulate General in Sydney, then such actions will not go unanswered by Moscow; they will concern the Australian Embassy, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“Canberra understands that if such actions follow, they will not go unanswered on our part. There are quite a few examples. They will simply lead to mirror countermeasures against the Australian Embassy in Russia. I repeat, this will not be our choice,” said Zakharova at her briefing.
She noted that for now the idea of closing the Russian Consulate General in Sydney “is only in the information field, perhaps it will remain there.”
“But in principle, there is no need to talk about changing the current anti-Russian position of the Australian political establishment. Official Canberra continues to obediently follow the course of the collective West. The contribution to support the Kiev regime amounted to about 600 million dollars, of which half a billion is in military assistance,” she complained .
Earlier, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong did not support a petition requesting the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Sydney, noting the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels with Moscow to protect the country’s national interests and support the Russian diaspora.
