The Russian branch of Greenpeace will be closed due to the recognition of the organization as undesirable

The Russian branch of Greenpeace will be closed due to the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation to recognize the international fund Greenpeace International as an undesirable organization. This was reported by the press service of the Russian branch.

“We express our categorical disagreement with the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office. This decision makes it illegal for any Greenpeace activity to continue in Russia. Therefore, the Russian branch of Greenpeace is forced to close,” the organization said in a statement.

Greenpeace is sure that the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office is due to the fact that the organization tried to “prevent the plans destructive for nature from being carried out and in many cases did it successfully.”

Earlier today, on May 19, the Prosecutor General’s Office declared Greenpeace undesirable. The agency found that the activities of the organization threaten the foundations of the constitutional order and the security of the Russian Federation. The decision concerns both the non-profit organization itself and its international foundation.

The Greenpeace Foundation, according to the Russian regulatory agency, finances the activities of foreign agents and requires changes in Russian legislation. His efforts are aimed at destabilizing the socio-political situation and attempting to change power in the country in an unconstitutional way, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
