The RFU discusses the conditions for the participation of the national team in the championship of Central Asia

The Russian Football Union is discussing the possibility of the participation of the Russian team in the championship of the Football Association of Central Asia. This was stated in the communications service of the RFU, reports TASS.

The press service of the Football Federation of Tajikistan announced on March 13 that the Russian team will play in the CAFA championship, which will be held from June 9 to 21. Teams from Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan will also participate in it. In addition, it is planned to invite another Asian team to the tournament.

“At the moment, the possibility and conditions for the participation of the Russian national team in this tournament are being discussed,” the message says.

As reported by Parliamentary Newspaper, after the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the Russian team was suspended from participation in international tournaments, and Russian clubs from European competitions. At the end of 2022, the RFU considered the option of moving to the Asian Football Confederation so that the Russian team could participate in the selection for the World Cup, and Russian clubs in Asian tournaments.
