The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia declared the Lithuanian non-governmental organization “League of Free Nations” (Free Nations League) undesirable. Her activities, as stated in press release departments, “poses a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and security” of Russia.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the organization is led by citizens of foreign states who live in Lithuania, Great Britain and Ukraine. They allegedly “call for the violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation and come out with separatist nationalist slogans.” The Prosecutor General’s Office sent the information to the Ministry of Justice to put the organization on the list of undesirable organizations.
The organization’s website states that it “fights for the freedom of peoples under imperial occupation.” It is argued that this is “a socio-political platform that unites the national movements of the peoples held captive by Moscow.” As of November 2022, the league allegedly included representatives of the Bashkir, Buryat, Ingrian, Cossack, Kalmyk, Moksha, Tatar, Chechen, Erzya and Yakut national movements.
