President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received the ex-head of Kyrgyzstan, the first president of the republic, Askar Akayev, and his wife. This was announced today, June 24, by IA 24.kg.

According to the agency, the parties discussed issues of science, education, digital economy and human resource development trends, as well as climate change issues and events taking place in the world.

On June 19, Askar Akayev delivered a lecture at the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi on the topic “Demographic dynamics since ancient times and the future of mankind.”

The first president of Kyrgyzstan, Askar Akaev, was overthrown from his post in a coup in 2005, after which he was forced to flee the country. Since then, he has not been in the republic until December 2021, when he was summoned for interrogation to the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Akaev, currently living in Moscow, agreed to fly to Bishkek after providing him with security guarantees. During interrogation at the State Committee for National Security, he made a deal with the investigation and gave a confession in the Kumtor gold mine case.
