The parties met at the presidential residence in Jerusalem for a state visit dedicated to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

“I am partly Latvian, as you know. My grandmother Sarah Herzog, née Hillman, was born in Riga and I have always been proud of my heritage and my family roots, so I feel like a part of your nation.”the Israeli president said.

“We have built a warm partnership based on common values ​​and interests. Israel attaches great importance to the continued strengthening and deepening of bilateral relations with Latvia, as well as with all three Baltic states.”— added Yitzhak Herzog.

The Israeli President also said that the visit of the head of Latvia was an opportunity to discuss ways to build partnerships with a focus on trade, joint research and academic cooperation.
