The political scientist explained why the Chinese military is ignoring calls from the Pentagon

The high military command of China is trying to compensate for the weakness shown due to the visit of the speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, and therefore ignores numerous calls from the Pentagon. Sergei Markov, director of the Institute for Political Studies, spoke about this in an interview with Life.

“China’s actions are an attempt to somehow formulate a response to Pelosi’s completely brazen, boorish visit. As you know, China was trapped because of its own harsh rhetoric. They drove ballistic missiles around the cities, they did military exercises, and in the end? Nothing “This has been seen around the world as a sign of weakness. This can seriously damage China’s image. Therefore, China now finds itself in need of compensating for this weakness in some way,” noted the political scientist.

Markov stressed that all these events are taking place against the backdrop of the Congress of the Communist Party of China, at which the Politburo will be re-elected. This event is significant for current Chinese leader Xi Jinping, as he is expected to be re-elected as party leader for a second term. As Life’s interlocutor pointed out, Xi Jinping is currently the most powerful Chinese leader in the previous 40 years. In this regard, the leader of the People’s Republic of China urgently needs to demonstrate all the strength and power of Beijing now, otherwise it will crack his image.

At the same time, the expert believes that the American side does not take China’s ignorance seriously, since the US leadership does not believe that Beijing will decide on any serious and tough actions against Taiwan.
