The head of the General Commissariat of Police of Moldova, Viorel Cernautanu, said that the Russian special services were involved in preparing actions to destabilize the situation in the country during mass opposition demonstrations. The words of the Moldovan Police Commissariat are quoted by the newspaper Publika.
“The police have received operational data on the preparation by the special services of the Russian Federation of actions to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova, which were planned during the protests of the opposition, including today,” Mr. Cernautanu said at a briefing before the rally of the opposition Shor party.
According to him, ten groups of five to ten people operated under the leadership of the Russian person – all of them underwent special training. 25 alleged members of the groups were brought to the police, 7 of them were detained, they are cooperating with the investigation.
On February 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia was preparing a plan to seize power in Moldova, he handed it over to the Moldovan authorities. Moldovan President Maia Sandu confirmed the words of Vladimir Zelensky and said that in order to change the course of the country to a pro-Russian one, it was planned to use violent actions, seize administrative buildings and hostages.
The new Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean, called on Russia to withdraw peacekeepers from Transnistria. About 1,500 Russian peacekeepers guard the largest ammunition depot in Europe – it is located in the Transnistrian village of Kolbasna. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov advised to be careful about the issue of Russian peacekeepers in the unrecognized republic.
