The outflow of household funds from banks in Russia in January amounted to almost 1 trillion rubles, a decrease of 2.7%. In December 2022, a record inflow of 2.5 trillion rubles was recorded. Such dynamics is typical for these months, the regulator notes.

“The outflow of funds from the population amounted to almost 1 trillion rubles. (-2.7%) after a record inflow in December 2022 (+2.5 trillion rubles, +7.6%),” the Central Bank reports. In January, people traditionally withdraw part of their funds and spend a lot due to long holidays, the regulator notes, while in December premiums and bonuses are paid for the year and social payments are advanced for the next month.

At the same time, funds of legal entities in banks increased by 1.8 trillion rubles in January. (+4% after the December growth of 5.8%). The Central Bank explains this trend with revenues from the financing of budget expenditures, as well as with an increase in the funds of oil and gas companies.

According to the regulator, in January the profit of the banking sector amounted to 258 billion rubles. – 1.5 times more than in January 2022 and more than for the whole of last year.
