“Today, despite the popularization of healthy eating, the statistics remain the same: dietary imbalances are characterized by excess intake of fat (especially saturated and trans fats), added sugars, table salt and insufficient intake of polyunsaturated fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals,” added Karpenko.
The doctor recalled that with their abuse, the risk of diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases (heart attack, stroke, etc.), as well as gastrointestinal disorders increases.
The interlocutor of the agency urged to control the frequency and amount of consumption of such products. So, it is recommended to consume red meat no more than twice a week, salt – five grams per day (iodized). In general, Karpenko noted, saturated fats in the diet should be less than ten percent of the total calorie intake, and free sugars – less than five to ten percent.
