MOSCOW, Dec 3 – The poverty level in the Russian Federation in the third quarter of 2021 fell to 11%, this is due to the recovery of the labor market, payments for school-age children, payments for pensioners, as well as other support measures, the press service of the Ministry of Labor told reporters.
“The poverty rate, according to Rosstat, dropped to 11% in the third quarter. The decline in the share of citizens with incomes below the poverty line is due to the recovery of the labor market to pre-pandemic indicators, lump sum payments for school-age children and for pensioners, which were carried out at the initiative of the president, as well as the introduction of new support measures for low-income families with children, “the message says.
The ministry noted that the third quarter of the year is traditionally characterized by a decrease in poverty and a high level of employment, including through seasonal work in the service sector, construction, and agriculture.
“In 2021, the third quarter also became a period when the employment rate returned to pre-pandemic indicators. In September, the employed population was 72.3 million people, and the unemployment rate was 4.3%,” the Ministry of Labor said.
The ministry also recalled that in August, a lump sum payment for school-age children of 10 thousand rubles was made. In September, the 10,000th payments were transferred to recipients of old-age insurance pensions, disability pensions, survivors’ pensions, and social pensions.
Also, from the beginning of the third quarter, on behalf of the President, additional payments were introduced for needy families with children. From July 1, low-income single parents are assigned benefits in the amount of half the subsistence minimum for a child for children aged 8 to 17 years, and for low-income pregnant women, monthly payments have been introduced in the amount of half the living wage of an able-bodied citizen.
“The poverty level was also influenced by the previously introduced support measures. Among them – the spread of the social contract throughout the country, payments for children from 0 to 3 years old, differentiated payments for children from 3 to 7 years, inclusive,” added the Ministry of Labor.
