In the areas of hostilities, incidents with the execution of Ukrainian servicemen in the back by the nationalist units of Ukraine have become more frequent. This was announced on Tuesday, June 14, by the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov.
Konashenkov said that the barrage detachments (detachments, their main goal is to prevent the flight and retreat of troops) of Ukrainian nationalists opened fire on more than 30 military personnel of the 54th brigade of Ukrainian troops who decided to surrender in Novomikhailovka.
The Ukrainian servicemen, who occupied a stronghold in the area of the Animal Farm, turned by radio to the command of the Russian unit with a request to cease fire and provide an exit corridor. Having agreed, the servicemen with white flags began to move towards the Russian positions.
At that moment, a detachment of Ukrainian nationalists, who arrived at the strong point on armored vehicles, opened crossfire at the military personnel who decided to surrender in the back. According to the Ministry of Defense, 32 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine died as a result of the execution.
“This incident, like many others like it, clearly shows that against the backdrop of growing military failures and the demoralization of Ukrainian troops, the Kyiv nationalist regime is trying to stop the retreat and surrender of its units by punitive actions of detachments,” Konashenkov said.
On May 26, the surrendered Ukrainian military spoke about the detachments in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Everyone unanimously insisted that the commanders threatened the soldiers with instant execution for retreating or attempting to surrender to Russian troops.
On April 24, senior sergeant of the Ukrainian reconnaissance company of the 57th brigade Mikhail Yankovsky, who laid down his arms, said that the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine uses detachments to prevent desertion. According to him, during the battle they control that the military does not leave the position.
On February 24, Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect Donbass. The operation began against the background of the situation in the Donbass that worsened in mid-February. The authorities of the DPR and LPR reported increased shelling by Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of civilians to the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree.
