Ukraine’s Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko said he was “cute” by the idea of renaming Russia Muscovy. However, in his opinion, this issue should be discussed with experts.
“Obviously, (this initiative.— “b”) has a historical basis… Obviously, here it is necessary to consult with experts, I like this idea, but the experts should have their say, ”the minister said on the air of the all-Ukrainian telethon (quoted by RIA Novosti).
Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to study a petition to rename Russia to Muscovy (“Rosiya” to “Moskoviya”). According to Mr. Zelensky, the issue requires “careful study both in the plane of the historical and cultural context, and taking into account possible international legal consequences.” The President of Ukraine considers all petitions that get more than 25,000 votes on his website. The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized the initiative.
