The law on the state language does not provide for punishment for non-compliance with the norms

The fact that amendments will be made to the law “On the state language of the Russian Federation” does not mean at all that any penalties will be introduced for non-compliance with the norms. This was stated by the head of the Duma Committee on Culture Elena Yampolskaya.

“Reference dictionaries will appear, which will be ordered by the government and for which the government will be responsible. Ahead is a huge work of large scientific teams. Therefore, when we talk about the use of anglicisms, foreign vocabulary, then we can talk about any responsibility from the moment these dictionaries appear“, — explained in an interview with TASS Yampolskaya.

She noted that sanctions for non-compliance with the norms of the Russian language in the speeches of politicians and journalists, as well as in official departmental correspondence, cannot be regulated by law. The deputy recalled that we live in a multinational country with many dialects that the law does not apply to. Yampolskaya noted that instilling new norms is a matter of gradual education or public condemnation in the presence of resonant cases.
