The question raised by the International Criminal Court about issuing a warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin is outrageous. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov during a conference call.
“We consider the very formulation of the question outrageous and unacceptable. Russia and a number of other states do not recognize the jurisdiction of this court. Any of his decisions for the Russian Federation from the point of view of law are insignificant, ”Peskov said. His words are reported by the correspondent of URA.RU.
Earlier, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. Russian Senator Andrey Klishas said in his telegram channel that the ICC warrant has no legal basis, since Russia and a number of other UN Security Council member countries do not recognize the jurisdiction of this court. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the decisions of the International Criminal Court have no meaning for Russia, including from a legal point of view, since the Russian Federation is not a party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and does not bear obligations under it.
