Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that he was not aware of any plans to change any strategic documents of Russia in connection with the suspension of participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).

“I don’t know about this,” Peskov told TASS.

Russian President Vladimir Putin during his Address to the Federal Assembly announced that Russia was suspending participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START). According to him, Washington is putting forward an ultimatum to Moscow, demanding the fulfillment of all clauses of the agreement, although he himself intends to “behave as he wants.” In addition, the head of state noted that in order for Russia to return to the discussion of the agreement, it is necessary to take into account the nuclear potential not only of the United States, but also of NATO countries, including France and Great Britain.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev believes that the suspension of START implies the preservation of its legal force and obligations under it, which means that Russia will comply with the ceiling on the number of strategic offensive weapons.
