President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach said he wants to see representatives of all national committees among the participants in the Olympics. So he answered the question of journalists about the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the pre-Olympic qualifying competitions.
“The recommendation of the IOC is that athletes from all countries should be allowed to participate in the qualifying competitions that are already underway. I hope that many federations will accept our recommendations,” said Tomah Bach at a press conference in Sofia (quoted from TASS).
Mr. Boh added that he is making every effort to bring together athletes from all over the world for their participation in international competitions.
After the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine in February 2022, the IOC recommended that sports federations remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions. In March 2023, the IOC recommended allowing Russians and Belarusians under a neutral flag. The recommendation did not affect the procedure for participation in the 2025 Olympic Games in Paris, according to which the IOC promised to publish a decision later. On May 16, the Olympic committees announced that they would not allow Russians and Belarusians to the European Games, through which they could qualify for the Olympics.
